In August 2024, Vietnam signed a protocol to export frozen durian and fresh coconut to China, opening up great opportunities for agricultural products.
Numerous businesses signed large export contracts, with some units reaching agreements to supply up to 1,500 containers of coconuts to this market. In the US, Vietnamese agricultural products, especially coconuts and passion fruit, are increasingly popular, promising to expand promotion and growth in the future.
As for Thailand, this year's unfavorable weather has reduced agricultural production, so this country has increased purchases from the Vietnamese market for domestic consumption or re-export to China.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, analyzed that China has very high demand for fruits and vegetables, especially Vietnamese durian.
With the export growth rate in recent months, Vietnam is likely to surpass Thailand to become the largest durian exporter to China in the next 1-2 years.
Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export value is expected to hit about 7.2 billion USD in 2024./.
