Vietnam, Australia share practical insights on energy transition

(CPV) - Australian and Vietnamese experts on September 18 gathered in a conference on energy transition in Hanoi.

The one-day conference serves as a vital forum, drawing on Australian experience in developing its power sector, as well as conducting policy analysis and recommendation practical pathways for Vietnam to achieve a reliable, affordable, and decarbonized electricity system, aligned with Vietnam’s Power Development Plan 8 (PDP8).

The conference is being organized as part of the Future of Electricity in Vietnam (FE-V) program launched in 2022 by the Australian Government with the coordination and participation of the Vietnamese Communist Party’s Central Economic Commission (CEC) and Vietnamese key energy agencies to deepen links between both countries.

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, His Excellency Mr Andrew Goledzinowski, said: “Australia and Vietnam have so much to share with each other about how we are managing our energy transitions. The Vietnam State of Energy Transition conference is a platform for us to have these frank conversations, informed by insights and reflections on what we are doing well, and not so well, in Australia.”

At the heart of this cooperation, is the growing understanding and trust Australia and Vietnam have with greater engagement and interactions between our energy agencies, based on shared challenges and opportunities of the energy transition. This deepening cooperation highlights our commitment to Vietnam’s energy future, further strengthening our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

At the side discussions of the conference, Deputy Director General in charge of Industry Department of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Trung, highlighted: "Future of Electricity in Vietnam (FE-V) is a meaningful initiative of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam in the context of the robus on-going transition. The research results under FE-V have provided good reference to inform relevant stakeholders in energy sector suitable solutions during for Vietnam’s energy transition process. The VSET Conference is a significant milestone in the implementation journey of the FE-V since 2022.”

“The conference will not only showcase these outcomes but also serve as a platform to strengthen connections between public and private sector stakeholders from our two countries.”

The Future of Electricity Vietnam (FE-V) program is funded by the Australian Government and implemented by Partnerships for Infrastructure, Australia – Mekong Partnership for Environmental Resources and Energy Systems (AMPERES), Australian National University, and CSIRO./.
