MediaMetrics, a major news agency in Russia, on September 29th broadcast a one-hour radio newscast focusing on the APEC event with the participation of Grigory Trofimtruk, head of the expert council of the Eurasian ideas foundation.
The newscast was followed by over 7,000 people via the online website and radio channel of MediaMetrics, a record figure for the agency’s World News programme.
At the talk, Trofimtruk answered many questions of the host on the APEC and the world situation as well as Russia-Vietnam relations, and evaluated Vietnam’s role in the international arena and the global economy. He also talked about Russia’s “look east policy” and the country’s position in the Asia-Pacific region.
To many Russian people, Vietnam is a beautiful tourist destination and a country with increasing influence in the world thanks to its diplomatic ties with almost 190 countries and membership of 650 non-governmental organizations, he said.
Vietnam has maintained a stable growth of about 7 percent, which goes contrary to the common global situation and is considered as a surprise record, he added.
Answering questions that audience sent to the show on the role of APEC 2017, Trofimtruk said that this year’s APEC Economic Leaders Meeting will take place amid complicated developments in the region and the world as well.
Therefore, Vietnam, as the host of the event, should put forth specific initiatives and solutions to address the current problems, he said, adding that the Russian public hopes that the meeting will serve as a forum for Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump to seek a common voice amidst tension in Russia-US relations./.
