Prime Minister Turnbull: Vietnamese food is enjoyed every day by Australians

(CPV) - This morning (November 10th), before beginning a busy day of meetings for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang, the Hon Malcolm Turnbull, Prime Minister of Australia, shared a banh my breakfast with Australian-Vietnamese celebrity chef Luke Nguyen at a local street vendor.
Enjoying the food, Prime Minister Turnbull shared “Vietnamese food is enjoyed every day by Australians, which is just one of the many positive contributions of the nearly 300,000 Vietnamese who call Australia home. But this is the first time I’ve ever tried banh my! I love the fresh flavors of Vietnamese food”.

The 63-year-old politician also said it was fantastic to see Australian agricultural exports featured in such iconic Vietnamese dishes. Australia is widely recognised as a high-quality and reliable supplier of food and beverages across Asia.
Vietnam is Australia’s second largest export market for wheat and beef - wheat is predominantly used to make wheat noodles, and the majority of banh my that Vietnamese enjoy everyday.
The nation also imports Australian malt and barley for its growing bbeer industry. Last year, it imported AUD446.2 million of wheat, AUD94.9 million of barley, as well as AUD37.5 million of beef and veal from Australia.
While Australian-Vietnamese celebrity chef Luke Nguyen is pleased that Vietnamese people increasingly have the opportunity to enjoy Australia’s premium food and beverages.
“As the Taste of Australia Ambassador in Vietnam I’m excited to work with the Australian Government to bring more high-quality Australian food and beverages, including our famed beef, wine, wheat and dairy, to Vietnam”, Luke Nguyen said./.
