13th National Party Congress opening session focus of world media

The 13th National Party Congress officially opened on January 26 in Hanoi with the participation of 1,587 delegates, representing more than 5.1 million Party members nationwide. The congress takes place from January 25 to February 2, attracting special attention from the world media.

On January 26, Xinhua News Agency reported that the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) had opened. It quoted Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc as saying that the congress focused on summarizing the implementation of the 12th National Party Congress resolution, evaluating 35 years of conducting the renewal process, putting forth directions and tasks for socio-economic development in the five years 2021-2025, and electing the Party Central Committee term XIII.

People's Daily Online Newspaper quoted Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong presenting the summary report of the 12th National Party Congress. According to the newspaper, Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized that Vietnam's overall development goal in the coming term is improving the leadership and combativeness of the Party; building a clean and strong Party and political system; consolidating people's trust in the Party, the State and the socialist regime; building and firmly protecting the fatherland, maintaining a peaceful and stable environment; and striving to help Vietnam become a socialist-oriented developed country by the mid-21st century.

Kyodo news agency reported that the 13th National Party Congress is the most important political event in this Southeast Asian country. The congress will discuss personnel issues and strategies in politics, diplomacy and economics. According to Kyodo, under the leadership of the Communist Party, Vietnam has successfully controlled the COVID-19 pandemic and achieved an economic growth rate of 2.91% in 2020.

NHK Radio and Television reported on the opening ceremony of the congress, Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong said that over the past 5 years, Vietnam had maintained an average growth rate of 5.9%. According to the Party General Secretary and State President, Vietnam's economic growth rate of 2.91% in 2020 made it one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Vietnam is recognized by the world as a bright spot in the successful implementation of the "dual goal" of both preventing the COVID-19 pandemic and recovering economic development, ensuring people’s life and safety.

The Bangkok Post (Thailand) newspaper reported on the opening ceremony of the congress, highlighting Vietnam's economic achievements in 2020 and successful control of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's The Star newspaper quoted Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc saying that the congress is a congress of "Solidarity - Democracy - Discipline - Creativity - Development", showing bravery, resilience and determination to go towards a nation of rich people; a strong country; a democratic, equitable and advanced society./.
