Commenting on the achievements of bilateral relations over the past 25 years in all fields of politics, economy, defense, culture, and education, Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink expressed his optimism about the future of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership.
Sharing about the imprints in the coming term, the US ambassador said that he is very proud of what the two sides have done, especially in reconciliation, settlement of war consequences, and search for missing soldiers in the war, confirming this issue will continue to be of concern in the future.
Mr. Kritenbrink was also touched to share about his visit to the martyrs' cemetery in Quang Tri, Truong Son martyrs cemetery, Binh An cemetery in Dong Nai province’s Bien Hoa city, and while holding hands of Vietnamese veterans on Ham Rong Bridge in central province of Thanh Hoa. He feels honour to be a part of these activities, helping the parties promote mutual understanding, moving towards reconciliation.
Cooperation in the health sector between the two countries amid the COVID-19 pandemic over the past year was also a bright spot. The ambassador expressed his appreciation for Vietnam’s gifts, because the thousands of personal protective suits and medical equipment have saved many US citizens' lives. According to him, during the tribulation, the US realizes that Vietnam is "one of the best friends".
In terms of the cooperation prospects between Vietnam and the US in the future, he said that the interests of the two countries in the basic fields have many similarities.
“We share a common strategic vision about the regional morphology we want to live in. We will continue to responsibly and practically resolve the differences between the two sides,” he said.
Although focusing on strategic goals, the US and Vietnam will focus on the real results of the interests of the two peoples, he expressed his belief that the relationship, friendship and sentiments of the two peoples will continue to grow strongly.
More importantly, Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink emphasized that US and Vietnam relations will continue to develop strongly under the Joe Biden administration.
“The administration of President Joe Biden has emphasized it will continue to strengthen the relationship with allies and partners of the US. Extremely optimistic about the future relationship between the two countries, I think, the limit for the relationship between the US and Vietnam expands like a high sky,” he stressed.
President Joe Biden sent a letter to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; Foreign Minister Antony Blinken held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh. Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink affirmed, President Joe Biden said that supporting a strong and prosperous Vietnam is the national interest of the US./.
