In the first half of this year, the Association for the Support of Handicapped and Orphans in the northern province of Quang Ninh encouraged 135 agencies and individuals to donate cash and exhibits worth VND2.1 billion to assist the lives of the handicapped and orphans.

The information was announced during a meeting by the association on July 17th to review the work in the first 6 months of the year.
According to the association, over VND989 million of the donations had been disbursed, benefiting over 1,000 disabled or orphaned individuals.
The association also visited and presented gifts to 263 people; built 1 charitable house; supported orthopaedic surgery for 40 children; granted 305 wheelchairs, 238 scholarships, 91 bicycles for disadvantaged children; and supported the lives of 45 poor pupils in mountainous areas.
In the near future, the association will increase the dissemination of information about the International Day for People with Disabilities, the Vietnamese law protecting the rights of people with disabilities as well as other projects supporting disabled people and children in special circumstances.
Furthermore, projects on giving welfare support for those in mountainous, border and coastal areas will also be built./.
