2024 blood donation campaign involves largest number of localities

For the first time, the nation’s largest blood donation program, Red Journey, was held across 51 provinces and cities, making this year the year with the largest number of localities registering to participate ever, the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion announced on April 7.

Associate Professor Nguyen Ha Thanh, Head of the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Head of the Red Journey organizing committee, emphasized that over the past decade, the program has not only contributed to expanding the source of blood donors, but also arouse love and respect for compatriots, and deepen the tradition of the nation's proud solidarity.
Through 11 organizing periods (2013-2023), 58 provinces and cities have participated in organizing the Red Journey. Many localities have organized the Red Journey for many consecutive years. The program has received over 810,000 units of blood, contributing to changing the perception of millions of people about voluntary blood donation, basically overcoming the summer blood scarcity.
This year, the program will start on June 1 in Dak Lak province and last until July 28, expected to receive 120,000 blood units.
Among the 51 localities, there are 5 provinces and cities that organize blood donation throughout all 12 periods: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Nghe An and Thanh Hoa.
Through 11 years of organization (2013-2023), the Red Journey has taken place in 58 provinces and cities, attracting millions of attendees; organized 522 blood donation days with 2,653 blood donation locations, receiving over 810,000 blood units./.
