For over 60 years, through continuous efforts in planting, protecting and developing forests, the frontline island of Co To has become a beautiful highlight at sea.

May 9, 1961, became a historic milestone for the people of Co To Island, Quang Ninh, when they had the honor of welcoming President Ho Chi Minh. In his speech to the military and civilians on the island, he advised: "It is necessary to plant more fruit trees, timber trees, and trees to block wind and storms. Planting trees will bring great benefits to the people and make our country more beautiful."
Following his teachings, for over 60 years, generations of soldiers and residents of the strategic island district in the northeastern waters of Vietnam, along with other coastal and island regions, have actively planted and protected forests, bringing significant benefits to the ecosystem and disaster prevention.
Having weathered countless storm seasons since her youth, Nguyen Thi Sac, a member of Co To District's Women’s Union Forest Planting Team, continues her habit of inspecting the casuarina windbreak forests after every storm.
"Uncle Ho advised us to plant and grow forests. After storms, if trees are broken or die, we must plant new ones in their place," shared Ms. Sac.
Today, in the effort to create a lush green environment for the country's frontier islands, over 3,000 hectares of forest across 28 islands are given special care and protection./.
