Accordingly, Districts 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, Binh Thanh, Go Vap, Phu Nhuan, Tan Binh and Tan Phu will invest in developing 2 social housing projects to serve workers, with the total construction floor area of nearly 30,000 m2 for 370 apartments.
The three districts of 7, 12 and Binh Tan will call for 5 housing projects for workers with an area of 290,000 m2 for nearly 4,000 apartments. Thu Duc City alone will do 5 social housing projects with a floor area of 220,000 m2, with more than 4,300 apartments.
The suburbs including Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Nha Be, Cu Chi and Can Gio Districts will develop 8 housing projects with an area of 546,000 m2 for about 9,500 apartments.
The total capital for these projects is more than VND37.6 trillion. In 2021 the city needs VND200 billion, and the figure needed in 2022 is nearly VND700 billion. Development capital is also socialized from businesses, households and individuals, and the budget.
In the 2016-2020 period, Ho Chi Minh City developed nearly 15,000 apartments on a total area of more than 1.2 million m2, of social housing for workers.
According to a survey by the Ho Chi Minh City Labour Confederation, about 1.3 million workers and labourers in the city have a need for housing. Most of the workers live in rented rooms and have to spend 10-15% of their income to pay for accommodation.
At the end of October, Thu Duc City started a social housing project for workers with a scale of 1,000 apartments and a total investment of about VND1.2 trillion, meeting the living needs of 3,000 people.
