"Digital nomad" is a term that refers to the trend of remote working combined with travel. After the COVID-19 pandemic, this trend is growing because many people change their ideas about living and working. In recent years, Vietnam has attracted the attention of the digital nomad community because of its beautiful nature, unique cultural heritage, friendly people and low cost of living.

According to Nomad List Vietnam, three destinations, including Da Nang city, Hanoi capital and Ho Chi Minh City, are in the list of the fastest growing digital nomad destinations in 2023. Da Nang ranked second, while Hanoi ranked eighth and Ho Chi Minh  ranked ninth place. The list takes into account factors such as the availability of Wi-Fi in public places, ease of obtaining visas, political climate, public safety and several other factors.

The 2023 Global Remote Work Index (GRWI), analyzing data from 108 countries, shows that although Vietnam ranks 59th globally, GRWI 2023 rates it especially highly for its quality of internet, digital infrastructure and breakthroughs in the field of e-government.

Despite many advantages, Vietnam still has some limitations that need to be overcome to improve the quality of the remote working environment for digital nomads.

Visa policy is not flexible. Currently, Vietnam only issues tourist visas to visitors with a maximum period of 90 days. This makes it difficult for digital nomads to stay long-term in Vietnam. According to experts, Vietnam needs a policy specifically for the digital nomad community, because they prioritize choosing countries with more flexible visa policies, allowing them to stay for longer periods of time.

Due to the short visa duration, digital nomads cannot open a bank account in Vietnam. This makes it difficult for them to make payments and conduct financial transactions.

According to NordLayer, one of the important criteria for digital nomads is the quality of the internet connection. Vietnam needs to upgrade infrastructure to ensure high-speed internet in all areas; at the same time, ensure data security to ensure the confidentiality of personal information of remote workers.

With great potential and benefits, Vietnam needs to soon deploy solutions to improve the quality of the remote working environment, promptly catch new trends and become an ideal destination for digital nomads./.
