In the letter, the Prime Minister emphasized that the traditional New Year festival Chol Chnam Thmay is a unique cultural feature of the Khmer people, the biggest festival of the year, and has a particularly important meaning of starting the new year with confidence, aspirations, wishes for good, prosperous and happy life. It is also an opportunity to show filial piety and respect for ancestors.
On behalf of Party and State leaders, the Prime Minister extended his greetings and best wishes to the Khmer people, monks and nuns.
He stated that with over 1.3 million people, the Khmer community is recognised as an integral part of Vietnam. “Over the past time, Khmer people have always believed in and seriously complied with the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State, joining forces unanimously with the people of the country to actively contribute to the country's great and comprehensive achievements and results in all aspects,” he said, adding that the Khmer ethnic region has a new development step, the material and spiritual life of the people continues to be improved.
He emphasized the importance the Party and State have placed on ethnic and religious affairs, stressing that effectively enforcing policies in these areas is crucial for strengthening national unity and promoting the positive and humanitarian values of all ethnic groups.
To continue to well implement ethnic and religious policies associated with social security policies in the coming time, he urged agencies and localities with Khmer communities to actively and flexibly adopt measures to improve livelihoods, offer care to policy beneficiaries, ex-revolutionaries and their families, disadvantaged households while upholding the role of intellectuals, respected individuals and community leaders in the Khmer community.
The year 2024 is the year the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minority Delegates at district and provincial levels will be held, a political event with important significance to summarize and evaluate 10-year implementation of ethnic affairs and policy; affirming the consistent guidelines of our Party and State on national issues and great national unity as well as the contributions of ethnic minorities in the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland, creating motivation to comprehensively develop ethnic minority areas, including Khmer ethnic areas, ensuring progress, social justice and sustainable development of the country.
The Prime Minister also suggested agencies and localities ensure that the Khmer people celebrate the Chol Chnam Thmay Festival in a unified, joyful, safe, economical and culturally appropriate manner./.
