The goods weighing some 40 tons and worth USD174,289, which are 600 domestic kits, 3,000 personal hygiene kits, 1,000 tool kits for house repair, an aluminium vessel and a 40-HP Yamaha engine, will be allocated to Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh provinces.

This is the second time this year ASEAN gives support to natural disaster-affected regions in Vietnam. In early August, the bloc provided aid to those in the country’s northern mountainous localities who were affected by flash floods and landslides.

“ASEAN’s prompt assistance contributes to helping Vietnam overcome the consequences of Storm Damrey, which shows the solidarity and mutual support for each other of ASEAN nations,” said Tran Quang Hoai, Head of the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority and a standing member of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

Strong Storm Damrey landed in central and Central Highlands regions of Vietnam on November 4th, causing torrential rain and large-scale serious flooding, leading to heavy loss in human lives and property. Statistics from the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control showed that as of November 14th, the storm and flood left 123 people dead or missing, destroyed 3,485 houses, damaged 137,729 other houses, inundated 8,554 hectares of rice and 21,116 hectares of vegetables, destroyed 25,511 aquaculture cages, and sunk 1,348 fishing vessels./.
