DPRK Chairman arrives at Dong Dang Station, beginning Vietnam visit

Chairman of the Workers Party of Korea (WPK) and the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un arrived at Dong Dang Station in the northern border province of Lang Son on February 26th morning, beginning a trip to Vietnam to attend the second DPRK-USA Summit and an official friendship visit to the country.

The official friendship visit to Vietnam is made at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) and President Nguyen Phu Trong.

The DPRK Chairman was welcomed at the station by Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member, Secretary of the CPVCC and Chairman of the CPVCC’s Commission for Popularization and Education; Mai Tien Dung, member of the CPVCC and Minister-Chairman of the Government Office; Le Hoai Trung, member of the CPVCC and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Vietnamese Ambassador to the DPRK Le Ba Vinh, and many other officials.

Thousands of local people held the national flags of Vietnam and the DPRK and flowers to welcome the DPRK leader at the Dong Dang Station.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) had previously reported that the train carrying the DPRK Chairman left Pyongyang on February 23rd afternoon. He has been accompanied by senior DPRK officials, including his younger sister Kim Yo-jong, alternate member of the Political Bureau and Deputy Director of the WPK Central Committee’s Propaganda and Agitation Department, and Vice Chairman of the WPK Central Committee Kim Yong-chol.

The second DPRK-USA Summit will take place in the capital city of Hanoi on February 27th and 28th. This is considered an important political and external event of Vietnam in 2019, manifesting its foreign policy of “Vietnam is a friend and reliable partner of the international community.”

Vietnam and the DPRK officially established diplomatic relations on January 31st, 1950. Since then, Vietnam has always treasured the traditional friendship and cooperation with the DPRK./.
