The insignia aimed to recognize and honour the active contribution of the Spanish Ambassador to reinforcing and promoting the traditional friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Spain.
Addressing the ceremony, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga said Vietnam and Spain have made significant achievements since setting up diplomatic relations in 1977, in particular after ties were elevated to a strategic partnership in 2009. “The achievements were brought about by efforts of ambassadors, other diplomats, and friendship organisations in the two countries over time,” she added.
She stressed that during her three-year tenure in Vietnam, Spanish Ambassador María Jesús Figa López-Palop has worked to not only bolster economic, political and cultural cooperation and facilitate collaboration between the countries’ businesses as well as social organizations; but also strengthen the friendship between the two peoples, along with communications work in fairness and equality for women.
For her part, Ambassador María Jesús Figa López-Palop said she was honoured to receive the insignia, adding that her ambassadorship in Vietnam was her final diplomatic working term.
She added that in Hanoi, she was honoured to receive Spanish King and Queen, contributing to promoting the traditional friendship and cooperation in all areas between Spain - Vietnam, especially in the field of people-to-people diplomacy.
Expressing her thanks to VUFO for setting up relationships between the Spanish Embassy and Vietnamese foreign agencies, she said she believed that the Spain – Vietnam relationship would continue to see stronger development in all areas./.
