Talking about the two countries’ relationship, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Pham Sanh Chau said that the comprehensive strategic partnership allows regular exchanges in all areas, especially at the high ranking level.

Stressing the close defence cooperation between the two countries, he added that the cooperation shows high political trust in each other.

According to Ambassador Chau, trade cooperation increases by 35-40% and is expected to reach USD15 billion by 2020. In fact, the two countries hold great potential in developing trade cooperation while India imports devices, machines and electronic goods from Vietnam; and Vietnam imports cotton products and other materials for the textile sector.

Additionally, they can boost cooperation in other areas, including information technology, digital economy, alternative energy, healthcare and civil aviation. “The two sides should establish a mechanism of dialogue between businesses and the Government, and create forums to share strategy and vision of cooperation,” said Mr Chau.

To contribute to realizing the bilateral trade turnover of USD15 billion by 2020, the Vietnamese Embassy in India will pay attention to organizing trade forums, and linking the two countries’ businesses.

“It will also bring five kinds of Vietnamese fruits, including blue dragon fruit, star apple, longan, durian and rambutan to the Indian market, while Vietnam will open up its market for some Indian products,” said Mr. Chau, adding that the embassy would encourage India to reduce tax on pepper, as well as trade protection over copper, steel and basa fish from Vietnam.

He also pledged to promote tourism and culture cooperation between the two countries./.
