Vietnam, Laos hold friendship meeting

(CPV) - The Vietnam - Laos friendship meeting was held on March 11th in Hanoi to celebrate the 2018 lunar New Year and Lao people’s traditional New Year Bunpimay Festival.

Speaking during the meeting which was organized by the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association under the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, Party Central Committee (PCC) member, National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee member, Head of the NA Deputies’ Affairs Board, Deputy Head of the PCC Commission on Organization and Chairman of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association Tran Van Tuy sent best Bunpimay New Year wishes to the staff of the Lao Embassy and Lao students in Vietnam to take place in mid-April.

He congratulated Laos on its achievements over the past years, and showed his belief that under the leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the country would gain greater results during its national construction and development.

According to Mr. Tuy, 2017 was the year of great significance for the Vietnam - Laos relationship as it had been chosen to become the Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam Friendship and Solidarity Year. Diverse activities were carried out across localities, between agencies and departments. Notable were two grand meetings marking the 55th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties and 40 years since the signing of the Vietnam - Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, which were organized in the two countries’ capital cities with the participation of the two countries’ Party, State, National Assembly, Government and Fatherland Front leaders.

“Activities marking the Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam Friendship and Solidarity Year helped the two peoples increase mutual understanding, reinforce solidarity in enhancing the special and comprehensive cooperation traditional relationship between the two countries which was fostered by President Ho Chi Minh, Kaysone Phomvihane and President Souphanuvong,” said Mr. Tuy.

He also expressed his thanks to the Lao Embassy in Vietnam, former experts and Vietnamese volunteers in Laos, for working closely with the Vietnam -Laos Friendship Association in effectively carrying out activities.

Addressing the meeting, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Thongsavanh Phomvihane confirmed that the Friendship Year between the two countries was a success, adding that the activities helped the Lao and Vietnamese young generations have a more thorough understanding in the special relationship between the two countries./.
