Ho Chi Minh city’s CPI soars 0.06% in August

Ho Chi Minh city’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August increased 0.06% from the previous month and rose 2.43% compared to the same period last year, according to the city Statistics Office.

Of this, three groups saw slight reduction against July, including: housing, electricity, water, fuel and building materials 0.31%; post and telecommunications 0.02% and culture, entertainment and tourism 0.06%.

Eight out of 11 remaining groups witnessed sharp increase from the previous month, including: restaurant and catering services 0.1%; beverage and cigarettes 0.3%; garments, hats and footwear 0.07%; household appliances 0.2%; medicine and health services 0.01%; transport 0.11%; education 0.83%; and other goods and services 0.33%.

This month, gold price index soared 13.97% from the previous month and surged 39.76% from the same period last year. US dollar price in August declined 0.33% over a month earlier and decreased 0.22% over a year earlier.

Total retail sales of consumer goods and services in August were estimated at VND 105.2 trillion, down 2.1% from the previous month and down 5.2% over from the same period last year./.
