Overseas Vietnamese in China’s Hong Kong welcome Lunar New Year

The Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China) organized an event to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year Festival for overseas Vietnamese on January 21st.

Speaking at the event, Consul General Tran Thanh Huan reviewed the achievements of socio-economic development and foreign affairs of Vietnam in 2017. Vietnam’s GDP in 2017 grew 6.81%. In terms of foreign affairs, Vietnam’s position was strengthened. Vietnam successfully hosted the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) 2017, which is highly appreciated by the international community.

He emphasized that the achievements of the country include important contributions from overseas Vietnamese across the world, including overseas Vietnamese in Hong Kong. The Party and State of Vietnam have always paid attention to the overseas Vietnamese community, as well as highly appreciated their role in building and protecting the nation.

On this occasion, outstanding overseas Vietnamese, who have positive contributions to the homeland and building strong overseas Vietnamese community, were presented certificates of merit by the Consulate General.

During the event, the overseas Vietnamese sent best wishes to each other and enjoyed traditional dishes and art performances. This is an annual event organized by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong for overseas Vietnamese./.
