Vietnamese Embassy visits and presents gifts to poor overseas Vietnamese in Cambodia

A delegation of the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia led by Counsellor Nguyen Manh Cuong visited, encouraged and presented gifts to nine households severely affected by landslide in Kompong Chomlong commune, Leurk Derk district, Kandal province, Cambodia, on January 16th.

The delegation presented KHR200,000 (about VND1 million) to each household.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong affirmed that the Party, State and Government of Vietnam, as well as the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, always consider the overseas Vietnamese community, including overseas Vietnamese in Cambodia, as an inseparable part of the people of Vietnam; and always share their difficulties, deprivation and disadvantages to help them soon settle their lives.

He also proposed that overseas Vietnamese in Cambodia in general, and in Kandal in particular, need to make more efforts in life, overcome difficulties, integrate into the local life, abide by local laws, and preserve and foster the traditional culture of Vietnam.

Overseas Vietnamese in Kandal province have over 20,000 people, living in eight of 11 districts of the province. The majority of them face many difficulties due to intellectual limitations, language problems and developmental conditions.

In Kompong Chomlong commune, Leurk Derk district, there are more than 200 overseas Vietnamese households, earning their living mainly by fishing, labour hiring and small trading.

On the same day, the delegation also learnt about situation of nearly 170 overseas Vietnamese households in Dey Ach commune, Kean Svay district, Kandal province, where a large number of overseas Vietnamese also meet various difficulties. Then, the delegation will present gifts to the overseas Vietnamese before the upcoming Lunar New Year Festival (Tet).

The visit, especially near Tet, helps the poor households feel warmer on the upcoming Tet./.
