(CPV) - The launch of the Vietnam energy outlook report 2017 was held in Hanoi on September 20th by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with the Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate and the Danish Embassy in Vietnam.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong addresses the launch ceremony.
The report is part of outstanding cooperative results between the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate in the framework of the Low Carbon Transition in Energy Efficiency Project (LCEE) which is sponsored by the Danish Government.

The report was built on the basis of updating information on forecasts for macro economic growth, energy demand growth and power demand. The program on planning optimal energy used in the report helps establish plans for developing the power system, with a focus on developing sources of alternative energy. This energy planning model has been used efficiently in Denmark and some other countries.

Addressing the launch, Deputy Ministry of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong said that together with the annual average economic growth of 7.26% in the 2001-2010 period and 5.91% in the 2011-2015 period, there was a rapid increase in energy demand in Vietnam. In particular, power consumption demand increased by up to 13% per year in the 2001-2010 period and some 11% per year in the 2011-2015 period.

According to Mr. Vuong, to ensure energy security and preserve the national energy source, the Vietnamese Government has put into effect policies on sustainable development of the energy sector, focusing on sustainably developing the alternative energy sector and promoting the economical use of energy.

He added that the Vietnam energy outlook report 2017 was of great significance in orienting the energy sector in connection with ensuring economic growth, environmental protection and energy security in Vietnam.

The report puts forth policy recommendations on developing the power system and the low carbon energy sector by increasing the exploitation and use of alternative energy sources, and expanding activities using energy economically.

It also provides additional information about Vietnam’s opportunities and challenges in sustainably developing the energy sector and ensuring national energy security with reasonable expenses and suitably with national development conditions./.
