Vietnam, US enhance English teaching through VietTESOL

(CPV) - Thai Nguyen University hosted the 3rd International VietTESOL conference from December 7th-8th, in coordination with the US Embassy Hanoi, National Foreign Language Project 2020, Ministry of Education and Training, and the VietTESOL Community.

The conference brought together diverse stakeholders of English language teaching, learning, research, and usage in an engaging platform to support the English language teaching profession, enhance English proficiency and life-long learning among professionals and learners, and advance English language teaching, learning, research and usage in Vietnam and beyond.

Offering a wide range of professional development opportunities to English language teachers of all levels, the event featured key note speeches from University of Hawaii’s Dr. J.D. Brown as well as Professors Hoang Van Van and Le Van Canh from University of Languages and International Studies - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Participants shared over 80 papers, posters and tech fair sessions and led 30 workshops, including many from US Department of State English Language Fellows. Approximately 280 English language instructors from around the country and 25 international participants registered to attend the conference.

Sponsor of the conference is the US Embassy’s Regional English Language Office (RELO) that opened in the US Embassy Hanoi in 2015. Part of the Public Affairs Section, it cooperates with the Ministry of Education and Training, teachers’ associations, universities, schools and English language teaching professionals on a variety of educational and cultural exchange programs and projects in order to enhance mutual understanding between the peoples of the region and the US. 

Besides, the office helps to manage English Language Programs in Vietnam, Cambodia and Lao PDR./.
