According to the Quang Ngai provincial People’s Committee, since 2011, the provincial Party Committee has led the detection of 23 cases with signs of corruption or economic crimes. Authorized agencies have prosecuted 8 criminal cases while Party organizations have dealt with 22 Party members involved in corruption or economic wrongdoings, and 7 Party organizations have been punished.

The People’s Courts at different levels have tried 18 corruption cases with 45 defendants and 15 economic cases involving 26 defendants, claiming the amount of revoked money caused by corruption and economic cases of nearly VND9.8 billion, with nearly VND3 billion of which having been successfully revoked.

During the meeting with Quang Ngai provincial leaders, the province made some proposals relating to mechanisms, policies and laws of the Party and State on detecting and dealing with corruption and economic wrongdoings. In particular, the province suggested that central agencies promptly complete legal regulations on corruption prevention and economic crime; increase the number of staff struggling against corruption and economic crime; and invest in equipment for corruption prevention work.

Mr Sau, addressing the meeting, recognized the province for promptly carrying out legal documents in leading and increasing the activities of provincial agencies in detecting and dealing with corruption cases. However, he noted that the province should address remaining weaknesses, especially in long-term cases and in the low amount of corrupted capital which has been revoked.

Receiving the assessments of the delegation, Mr Le Viet Chu, 12th PCC member and Secretary of the Quang Ngai provincial Party Committee, stressed that the province always considered corruption prevention a key and regular task.

The Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee has increased inspection over the leadership of the Executive Boards of Party organizations in investigating and dealing with corruption and serious economic cases, according to Secretary Chu./.
