Met by reporters in Beijing after arriving on an Air Koryo flight from Pyongyang, Choe reportedly said she would be “speaking at an international conference in Sweden.”

Choe's trip comes as expectations grow for a second meeting between DPRK leader’s Kim Jong-un  and US President Donald Trump,  despite a lack of progress in denuclearization negotiations.

Sweden has often been a place for exploratory semi-governmental contact between Pyongyang and Washington.

Besides, the visit by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs to Sweden comes as Kim Yong-chol, the Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the DPRK’s ruling Workers' Party, is expected to meet US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as early as next week to finalize details of the anticipated summit.

Earlier, President Donald Trump on January 6th announced that the negotiations for the 2nd summit between the US and DPRK were underway.

“We are negotiating a location,” he told reporters. “It will be announced probably in the not too distant future,” he added, of a summit with leader Kim./.
