Indonesia, Timor Leste promote multifaceted ties

Indonesia and Timor Leste have agreed to promote multifaceted cooperation, especially in the fields of trade, investment, fishery, agriculture, education, forestry and transport.

The agreement was reached during the talks between Timor-Leste President Matan Ruak and his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on the occasion of Matan Ruak’s visit to Indonesia on June 21.

They also agreed to complete the demarcation of three remaining border segments as soon as possible as under the agreement reached by the two countries in March this year.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono reaffirmed Indonesia’s full support for Timor Leste to join the ASEAN.

On this occasion, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on visa exemption for their diplomatic and official passport holders.

Two-way trade between Indonesia and Timor Leste has increased incessantly in recent years, reaching nearly USD259 million in 2012 from USD221.5 million in 2011./.
