Bac Ninh celebrates 15th anniversary of Quan Ho folk songs recognition as intangible cultural heritage

The northern province of Bac Ninh will organize a series of events to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Quan Ho Bac Ninh folk songs being recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity from November 11 to 30, said the provincial People’s Committee.

This is not only an opportunity to honor the value of the heritage, but contributes to promoting the unique culture of the Kinh Bac region.

Quan Ho singing is a typical cultural feature unique to the festivals of the Kinh Bac region, becoming a daily activity in the lives of the people, developing widely throughout villages, into every hamlet, and street corner.

On September 30, 2009, Quan Ho Bac Ninh was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Over the past 15 years, Bac Ninh has well implemented the contents of Vietnam's commitment to UNESCO on preserving Quan Ho folk songs, such as teaching, restoring traditional performance spaces, promoting them to the world and investing in facilities in order to preserve, protect and continue to promote the unique value of Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk song heritage.

Currently, Quan Ho singing has spread to all regions of the country, becoming an attractive cultural symbol, positively contributing to the process of cultural integration with the world.

One of the key events of the 15th anniversary of Quan Ho folk songs will be held at 8:00 p.m. on November 23 at Hall A, Kinh Bac Cultural Center, with the performance of smooth Quan Ho melodies.

In addition, a series of exhibition activities to widely introduce Quan Ho Folk Songs will be held from November 12 to 23 at the Quan Ho Folk Song Theater.

From November 13 to November 30, the provincial library will also display documents on “Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Songs - Quintessence and Identity,” providing the public with a comprehensive view of this cultural heritage.

In addition, aiming to create a space for cultural exchange, on the evening of November 21, an art program on a boat at Nguyen Phi Y Lan Lake will introduce traditional Quan Ho melodies. Festivals such as the Quan Ho Village Festival (November 15) and the Bac Ninh Tourism, Cuisine and Craft Village Festival (November 14-18) will also be opportunities for visitors to enjoy the unique cultural and artistic beauty of Bac Ninh./.
