The festival is the first of its kind, held to promote the potential and strength, cultural characteristics and products of Ba Che district, including camellia chrysantha, a high value medicinal plant growing in the district.
Addressing the ceremony, Vu Van Dien, Vice Chairman of the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee, said the event aimed to introduce the typical products of the district, thereby encourage locals to increase the production and processing of medicines, including those made from camellia chrysantha, while attracting investors into this field.
Camellia chrysantha was found growing naturally in forests in Ba Che district a long time ago, but its real value was only discovered in recent years.
As a species of plant in the Theaceae, it is not only an ornamental plant, but also the source of precious pharmaceutical material.
Local residents in Ba Che often sell this plant at VND15 million/kg of dried camellia chrysantha buds and flowers. Ba Che district is now growing around 100ha of camellia chrysantha and the area is expected to expand 500ha by 2020./.
