Expanded Ha Long Bay seeks for world natural heritage

A dossier on area expansion of the World Natural Heritage Site Ha Long bay to Cat Ba archipelago in Hai Phong city will be composed and submitted to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to seek its recognition.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has asked Hai Phong city People’s Committee to coordinate with Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee and relevant agencies to compose the dossier.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism will instruct Hai Phong city to draft the in accordance with the 1972 World Heritage Convention and Vietnam’s relevant regulations. 

Cat Ba archipelago covers more than 17,000 hectares of land and 9,200 hectares of sea. It boasts a typical ecological system in Vietnam, including tropical rain forests on limestone islands, mangrove forests, coral reefs, sea grass, sand beaches and cave networks./.
