Hanoi flower street festival 2012 to open

(CPV) – The Hanoi Department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced that the Flower Street Festival Hanoi 2012, under the theme “flower heritage sites”, will honour the cultural heritage sites that have been recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

As scheduled, the opening ceremony of the festival will be held on the evening of December 30 2011 until January 2 2012. This is one of a series of activities to promote cultural tourism in Hanoi and also to respond to the National Tourism Year 2012 of the North Central Coast – Hue 2012, which takes the theme of “Heritage Tourism”.

Accordingly, such heritages as the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, the stone steles in the Literature Temple, Giong Festival and Ca Tru will be showcased at the event. Besides these, the flower festival will also honour the other heritages which were recognised by UNESCO, including Ha Long Bay, Hoi An Ancient City, Ho Dynasty Citadel, My Son Holy Land, Central Highland Gong, Quan Ho as well as many more.

Hanoi flower street festival 2012 will be held in the streets from Dinh Tien Hoang, Le Thai To, Le Lai and Le Thach, the flower garden of the King Ly Thai To’s Statue and the surface of Hoan Kiem Lake, along with other heritage sites such as Ngoc Son temple, The Huc bridge and But and Hoa Phong towers.

In the framework of the event, a wide range of activities such as flower-arranging competitions, exhibitions of ornamental plants and handicrafts will be also organised./.
