Japan presents cherry trees to strengthen solidarity and friendship with Vietnamese province

On May 23, the Pleiku City People's Committee held a ceremony to plant 24 cherry blossom trees given by Japan to Gia Lai Province under the Program "Meeting Gia Lai - Japan 2022", symbolizing solidarity and friendship between Vietnam in general, Gia Lai in particular, and Japan.

The program "Meeting Gia Lai - Japan 2022" which took place from May 22-23 is part of a series of events to celebrate the 90th founding anniversary of Gia Lai Province, in order to promote the friendship and cooperative relationship of Vietnam in general and Gia Lai province in particular with Japan.

This was also an opportunity to promote the potential and strengths of Gia Lai Province to Japanese organizations, businesses and localities; strengthen exchanges and cooperation between businesses of the two countries; and introduce and consume products of enterprises and promote people-to-people cultural exchanges. On this occasion, the Japanese side donated 24 cherry blossom trees to Gia Lai Province, symbolizing the solidarity and friendship of Vietnam in general and Gia Lai province in particular with Japan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Kpă Thuyen expressed his pleasure to receive this meaningful gift. “Cherry blossoms will grow and bloom, forever being the symbol in the province of the solidarity of the two peoples of Vietnam – Japan,” he said.

He urged relevant agencies to well protect and take care of the trees, helping protect the environment; creating a green, clean and beautiful living environment; and contributing efforts to build Pleiku City into a highlight for tourism – a green plateau for health.

According to Mr. Sho Shiratori, Director of the Japan-Vietnam Exchange Center in Vietnam, cherries are a flower symbolizing the spirit, strength and culture of the Japanese people; and the pride of the Japanese people. He expressed his hope that the gift will help strengthen friendship and mutual understanding between the two sides./.
