The statement affirmed that the US Government is ready to assist Vietnam in dealing with flood damage and expresses its deepest sympathy for all those affected by this tragedy.

On the same day, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) also put out a press release affirming that it would immediately assist in overcoming the consequences of floods that occurred on a large scale in central Vietnam. Specifically, through USAID, the US will immediately provide humanitarian assistance of USD200,000 to further support the response to severe flooding in Vietnam and Cambodia. USAID is currently working with the Vietnam Red Cross to help people affected by the floods.

In addition, USAID will also provide long-term support to disaster risk and impact reduction programs across Southeast Asia. Through these investments, USAID's partners have been leading in responding to the impact of extreme weather in Vietnam and Cambodia during this year's storm season./.
