(CPV) - Over the past ten years, Hanoi has coordinated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and relevant departments and agencies to implement eight commitments with UNESCO on preserving and promoting heritage values of Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

On November 23, the Hanoi People’s Committee coordinated the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO to organize an international symposium on Thang Long Imperial Citadel which was recognized as World Heritage Site by UNESCO ten years ago.
The event drew the participation of representatives from the UNESCO Office in Hanoi, and the UNESCO’s Asia/Pacific Regional Committee for the Memory of the World Programme, among others.
Nearly 40 presentations from scientists and researchers were sent to the organizing board. Presentations are on different fields such as research, conservation, preservation, restoration and management of the site.
Participants focused on summarizing and evaluating the results of 10 years of research on World Cultural Heritage of Thang Long Citadel; orientation of research and restoration of architectural works, sustainable management of heritage sites in Vietnam and the world - experience; orientation to promote the intangible cultural values; heritage education.
Delegates at the symposium reviewed excavations conducted over the past decade, along with data building in service of the conservation work, and cooperation in research and exhibition.
Many suggested restoring traditional architectures in the citadel, and increasing exhibitions and communication activities to popularise the heritage values among the public.
Buil in the 11th century, the citadel is characterised by its longevity and continuity as a seat of power, evidenced by different archaeological levels and monuments, according to UNESCO./.
