In particular, the commune has focused on completing the criteria for advanced new rural areas associated with tourism development, in order to promote the potential and strengths of the locality.

Duong Lam commune focuses on shifting towards reducing the proportion of agricultural production to 14.9%; increasing the proportion of trade, services, small-scale industry and prioritizing trade and tourism development.
The commune encouraged and created conditions for the expansion of rural economic types, such as: individual economy, households, cooperative groups, cooperatives to support and promote the development of trade and service economy. Thanks to that, Duong Lam commune has built OCOP (One Commune One Product) such as: “Braised Carp in Clay Pot” of Duong Lam Village Kitchen business and handicraft products of artisan Nguyen Tan Phat.
In addition, the commune also developed many economic models with high efficiency, earning revenue of hundreds of millions of VND a year such as: Family flower garden model combined with experiential tourism and model of food services, experiential tourism, photography and homestay.
Currently, Duong Lam’s average income is 68 million VND a person a year and it has no more poor households and only 28 nearly-poor households from June 2024.
The National Monument of Duong Lam Ancient Village, located in five villages, including: Mong Phu, Dong Sang, Doai Giap, Cam Thinh and Cam Lam, has typical and unique values of a pure Vietnamese village, closely associated with rural life and agricultural production dating dozens of centuries.
Duong Lam Ancient Village preserves and conserves a precious cultural and historical treasure, an ancient land of “geomancy and talent”, the birthplace of national heroes, celebrities, talented scholars, contributing to the cause of building and defending the country, such as: King Phung Hung, King Ngo Quyen, and Envoy Giang Van Minh – an excellent diplomat in the late 16th and early 17th century.
Duong Lam commune is also home to a series of ranked relic sites, including the Phung Hung Temple, Ngo Quyen Tomb, Giang Van Minh Temple, Mong Phu communal house and Mia Pagoda.
Thanks to the advantages, Duong Lam commune has promoted the development of tourism economy, contributing to bringing revenue to the locality and the people.
Secretary of the Mong Phu Village Party Committee Nguyen Thi Nghia shared that as the “core area” of Duong Lam Ancient Village, Mong Phu Village has many relics known to tourists, such as: Mong Phu Communal House nearly 500 years old; Giang family temple associated with Envoy Giang Van Minh; Phan family temple associated with Deputy Prime Minister Phan Ke Toai - a talented, virtuous, honest, and devoted person to the people; and many ancient houses that are hundreds of years old.
Aiming to take advantage of economic development associated with tourism, many households in Mong Phu village actively promote traditional cuisine, such as: Producing Che Lam cake, Che Kho, Banh Te, Banh Gai, Doi candy, peanuts and sesame.
Secretary of the Duong Lam Commune Party Committee Nguyen Dang Thao said that in the first nine months of 2024, the commune welcomed more than 140,000 visitors to the ancient village, bringing in billions of VND in revenue. In addition, tens of thousands of students from junior high and primary schools in the town, the city and neighboring localities came to visit and learn about the traditional values, culture, history and relics of the ancient village.
Chairwoman of the Duong Lam Commune People’s Committee Pham Thi Le Thuy said that the commune has currently achieved and basically achieved 13 out of 19 criteria for advanced new-style rural areas. Besides the advantages, the commune still faces many difficulties and it needs support from all levels and sectors to have solutions to help the commune complete the remaining criteria related to planning, traffic, education and environment. With the efforts of the entire political system and the people, Duong Lam commune is determined to soon reach the goal of meeting the advanced new-style rural standards./.
