(CPV) - An event was co-organized by the People's Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi to launch Month "For the Poor" and social welfare on October 16.

The month aims to promote Vietnam's tradition of solidarity and mutual assistance and to mobilize additional resources to support the poor and contribute to the city's poverty reduction and social welfare goals.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi, said that since the beginning of the year, the fronts at all levels in the city have allocated more than VND103 billion from the fund for the poor in support of the construction and repair of 1,232 solidarity houses.
The municipal Fatherland Front has co-ordinated efforts with the City People's Committee to build and repair houses for 714 poor households and households in difficult circumstances.
Hanoi has supported 15 provinces and cities in building 7,140 solidarity houses, worth more than VND317 billion in response to the call for the whole country to unite to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide from now until 2025.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, said the city has taken effective measures to improve the living conditions of low-income people, ensure social and political stability, and create a driving force for its economic development.
The event has a profound humanistic meaning and is an opportunity to honor outstanding individuals and organizations who have made great contributions to the cause of poverty alleviation and social welfare activities under the motto "Leaving no poor people behind", she emphasized.
At the ceremony, the city's "Fund for the Poor" received a total amount of VND27.6 billion in donations from organizations, businesses and individuals./.
