Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City always treasures the relationship between Vietnam and Russia; and always wants to make a positive contribution to the better development of relations between the two countries.

He made the statement on April 26 during his reception for Russian Ambassador to Vietnam, Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich, on the occasion of his visit to Ho Chi Minh City.
In order to further strengthen cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Russian partners in the fields of trade, investment and tourism, Mr. Mai proposed to reopen direct flights between the two countries soon, thus promoting exchange and cooperation between businesses of the two sides. With the strength of being a powerhouse in science and technology, he said that cybersecurity, digital transformation and high technology are areas where the two sides have a lot of room for cooperation.
Noting that Ho Chi Minh City currently cooperates closely with five Russian localities, he confirmed that the city attaches special importance to these relationships. Therefore, he expressed his wish that the Russian Ambassador to Vietnam would help and support to make cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Russian localities become more practical and effective.
Affirming that Ho Chi Minh City in particular and Vietnam in general are always grateful for the great support and assistance of the former Soviet Union, as well as Russia today in the process of national construction and development, he committed to make every effort and coordinate with the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City to achieve the desired cooperation results of the two sides, contributing to consolidating and developing the good friendship between Vietnam and Russia, as well as between Ho Chi Minh City with Russian localities.
With many years of working in Ho Chi Minh City, returning to Ho Chi Minh City, Ambassador Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich expressed his pleasure to see the positive change of Ho Chi Minh City, saying that many Russian partners and businesses wish to promote cooperation and investment in Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular in many fields, such as energy, high technology and digital transformation.
Adding that the economies of the two countries are not competitive but complementary, he expressed his belief that the two countries have enough conditions for further development in the future. “Russia is willing to create all conditions for Vietnamese businesses to invest and do business in Russia,” he said, committing that he would do his utmost to further promote cooperation between Russian localities and Ho Chi Minh City./.
