Vietnam, Russia promote cooperation in diverse areas

The year 2018 marks remarkable progress in the development of the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the Federation of Russia, especially in economics, trade, defence technology and humanitarian work.

Next year promises to be full of events boosting the two countries’ relationship, when they will mark the 25th year since the signing of the agreement on friendly relationship and look to mark the 70th year of the diplomatic relationship.

The information was announced by Alexey Popov, Russian Consul General to Ho Chi Minh city, during a press conference on the development of the Russia – Vietnam relationship in 2018, held by the Russian Consulate General on December 26th.

Showing his pleasure with the bilateral cooperation in all areas, including oil and gas, power energy, machine manufacturing and agriculture, Mr. Alexey Popov said that in regular dialogues, the two countries’ leaders always make favourable conditions for promoting the cooperative relationship, making it more dynamic.

According to Mr. Alexey Popov, so far, Russia has invested over USD2.6 billion in Vietnam, while Vietnamese businesses have invested USD2.9 billion in Russia’s economy. “In the first 10 months of 2018 alone, the goods exchange increased by 23%, at nearly USD4.8 billion,” he said. “The figures make the target of USD10 billion by 2020 feasible.”

Talking about the relationship among the two countries’ localities, he said that Russia cares about expanding the relationship with Vietnam’s southern localities.

Regarding the cooperation between Ho Chi Minh city and Saint Petersburg in 2018-2020, he said that Saint Petersburg is going to send a cultural and business delegation to Vietnam.

In particular, different events will be held in each city, including “Ho Chi Minh city Days” in Saint Petersburg in October – November 2019, “Youth Conference” in Ho Chi Minh city in April 2019 and in Saint Petersburg in September - October 2019.

In 2019, there will also be exchanges among Sverdlovsk province’s and Ho Chi Minh city’s leaders, and “Sverdlovsk Culture Days” held in Ho Chi Minh city./.
