According to the Ministry of Health, earlier, Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi announced an additional aid of one million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 to Vietnam. This is the fourth batch of vaccines Japan has given to Vietnam since mid-June.
Previously, on June 16, July 2 and July 9, Japan delivered 3 batches of AstraZeneca vaccine to Vietnam, with a total of nearly 2 million doses.
With the upcoming batch of vaccines, Vietnam has a total of nearly 9 million doses, of which more than 6 million doses are AstraZeneca vaccines from Covax. In addition, Vietnam also has 2 million doses of Moderna vaccine donated by the US through Covax, 500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine donated by China, and 1,000 doses of Sputnik V donated by Russia.
On July 12, the Government agreed to the proposal of the Ministry of Health, introducing T&T Group to the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) to negotiate and buy 40 million doses of Sputnik V vaccine. The Ministry of Health also allowed Saigon Pharmaceutical Company to import 5 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine, to meet the urgent need of COVID-19 prevention.
Vietnam has set a target of vaccinating 70% of the population by April 2022 to achieve herd immunity, so 150 million doses of vaccine are needed. Currently, through official negotiating sources, Vietnam may receive 105 million doses of the vaccine this year.
The largest population vaccination campaign in history began on July 10.
Statistics from the Ministry of Health on July 13 showed that a total of 4,063,872 doses of vaccination were administered./.
