Great potential for Ho Chi Minh City – Austria cooperation

Bui Xuan Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City creates favorable conditions for foreign businesses, including Austrian enterprises, to invest and participate in business activities in priority areas such as transportation infrastructure, sectors supporting green and sustainable growth, smart urban development, digital economy and digital government.

On October 21, Vice Chairman Bui Xuan Cuong welcomed Austrian Ambassador Philipp Agathonos on a courtesy visit as he began his new diplomatic mission.
Congratulating Ambassador Philipp Agathonos on his appointment to Vietnam, Mr. Cuong expressed confidence that the Ambassador's visit to Ho Chi Minh City would lay the groundwork for many new projects and cooperative activities between Austria and Vietnam, particularly in Ho Chi Minh City, helping both sides better understand the untapped potential and opportunities for cooperation.
According to Mr. Cuong, investment and trade relations between Vietnam and Austria have flourished, especially after the signing of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). For Ho Chi Minh City, Austria remains an important trade partner with significant growth potential. Bilateral trade turnover in 2023 reached nearly USD66 million.
Ambassador Philipp Agathonos expressed his pleasure at the development of relations between the two countries, especially in economic and trade sectors. He affirmed that during his term, he would work to promote deeper cooperation between Austria, Vietnam and other EU countries./.
