According to the Japanese Embassy, the Japanese government recently decided to organize the Specified Skills Exam in these two new sectors in Vietnam to expand opportunities for Vietnamese workers to enter the Japanese labor market.

Specifically, the exam in the "food service" field will be held starting in December 2024, while the exam in "food and beverage production" will take place from February 2025.

Currently, the number of foreign workers in Japan under the specified skills category has reached over 251,000, with Vietnamese workers making up more than half, numbering 126,832 people. This makes Vietnam the leading country in terms of workers under this program.

In particular, there are currently 9,000 Vietnamese workers in the "food service" sector and 46,000 in "food and beverage production."

The expansion of the exam to these two new fields is expected to further boost the number of Vietnamese workers participating in Japan's labor market, especially in industries with high demand.

The exams will be conducted in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, along with existing exams in other fields such as nursing care, construction, automotive maintenance, hospitality and agriculture.

After completing procedures with the Vietnamese government, detailed recruitment information will be posted on the Japanese Embassy's official website and Facebook page in Vietnam.

Registration for the food service exam is expected to open on December 4, with exams starting on December 10. The food and beverage production sector will conduct exams starting in February 2025.

As of October 2024, the Specified Skills Exam is regularly held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in five fields: nursing care (both skills and Japanese language for nursing), construction, automotive maintenance, hospitality and agriculture.

By the end of August 2024, nearly 1,000 people had taken the exam, with 819 passing. Some fields have had high pass rates, such as nursing care skills at 90.2%, agriculture at 88.6%, Japanese language for nursing care at 75% and automotive maintenance at 73.6%./.
