He made the statement during a recent online meeting with Laos’ Vientiane Mayor Atsaphangthong Siphandone and Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Mayor Khuong Sreng.
During the meeting, Chairman Phong said that Ho Chi Minh City’s authority and people are always interested in, closely monitor and share the difficulties of Vientiane and Phnom Penh, which are now facing a new wave of the pandemic. “The Party Committee, the authority and the people of Ho Chi Minh City have given a lot of support in funding and medical equipment for the pandemic prevention and control activities in Vientiane and Phnom Penh, as well as other Lao and Cambodian localities, which,” he said, “showed the love, attention and best efforts of the entire political system and the people of Vietnam and the people of Ho Chi Minh City towards Laos and Cambodia.”
He also affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City always respects and does its best to preserve and consolidate good relations with Laos and Cambodia, expressing his hope that the pandemic will be soon controlled, so that the two sides will recover their two-way economic and trade, soon resume the exchange and cooperation activities that were suspended from the previous year, and actively develop many new and practical cooperation activities.
On this occasion, Ho Chi Minh City supported Vientiane and Phnom Penh with USD50,000 each to show its affection, concern, and sharing some difficulties with the two capitals of Laos and Cambodia in the current difficult situation.
Speaking at the meeting, Vientiane Mayor Atsaphangthong Siphandone shared concerns about the complicated COVID-19 development in the world, as well as in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, expressing the wish to strengthen cooperation between the three countries in the prevention and control of this dangerous pandemic. Showing his thanks to the support of Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam in general to Laos, he affirmed that the close cooperation between Laos - Vietnam - Cambodia is an important factor to ensure the success of pandemic prevention and control in each country; creating an important premise for each country for socio-economic development, ensuring the stability and prosperity of the whole region.
Phnom Penh’s Mayor expressed his admiration and appreciation for Ho Chi Minh City’s initiative to hold a meeting between the three cities, demonstrating joint efforts and determination in concentrating all resources to fight COVID-19 in each country and region.
