Lao media highlights Vietnam's valuable support for COVID-19 prevention

The Lao media has highlighted the extremely valuable support from the Government of Vietnam to assist the Lao Government in its fight against the COVID-19 outbreak.

Vientiane Times reported on May 6 that the Government of Vietnam has sent medical experts and staff, cash and medical equipment worth billions of LAK to help Laos prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest aid shipment of the Vietnamese Government, which included 2 million masks, 10 tons of disinfectants and many other medical supplies and equipment and more than LAK4.7 billion, was transferred to Laos on April 4 in the context of Laos trying to control the COVID-19 pandemic which has forced the Lao Government to order blockage nationwide.

The Vietnamese medical staff sent to help Laos includes experts in diverse areas like infectious diseases, intensive care, emergency resuscitation, epidemiology and testing.

The Vientiane Times emphasized that Vietnam is a country actively supporting Laos in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and has repeatedly supported Laos in this fight.

On May 3, the People's Army of Vietnam sent equipment and 4 medical experts to assist Laos in dealing with the second wave of outbreaks in this country. Medical supplies and equipment were handed over at Nam Phao - Cau Treo international border gate.

According to the newspaper, when the pandemic started in early 2020, Vietnam also sent similar support of medical equipment worth over LAK2 billion. This aid shipment included 330,000 masks, 1,000 protective clothing and much other essential equipment.

As the second wave of the pandemic in Laos has been escalating, the number of COVID-19 cases in Laos now exceeds 1,000, forcing the country's agencies to set up field hospitals to have enough treatment facilities.

Vientiane Times quoted Lao officials as saying that Vietnam's assistance has significantly contributed to the efforts to prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic in this country./.
