On November 21, he received Mr. Yamada Takio, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, who was on a business trip to Ho Chi Minh City.

Through Ambassador Yamada Takio, Mr. Nen sent his sincere thanks to the Government and people of Japan for timely support of more than 3.5 million doses of vaccines and medical equipment for Ho Chi Minh City during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He informed Mr. Yamada Takio about the city’s post-COVID-19 economic recovery, thereby showing the great potential of the city. However, due to the influence of the world geopolitical situation, the business community in Ho Chi Minh City in general, including Japanese businesses, also faces many difficulties, therefore, he said that the city is willing to work with the Japanese Embassy and Consulate General to find a way to help businesses overcome difficulties.

He thanked and agreed with Ambassador Yamada Takio's proposals to implement new investment and cooperation projects between Ho Chi Minh City and Japan such as projects related to climate change and green energy, wastewater treatment, and saltwater intrusion prevention.

“If such projects are sponsored and implemented soon by the Japanese side, they will promptly reduce the harmful effects of climate change in Ho Chi Minh City,” he said, adding that Ho Chi Minh City is urgently completing the construction of Metro Line 1 in cooperation with Japan so that it can be put into operation in 2023.

Ambassador Yamada Takio highly appreciated the important position of Ho Chi Minh City in relations with Japan, especially in economic terms, when there are more than 10,000 Japanese people living and more than 700 Japanese companies operating in the city.

According to Ambassador Yamada Takio, for three consecutive years, Vietnam has been at the top of the countries attracting investment from Japanese companies. He also informed that the Japanese side is planning to cooperate with Vietnam to organize activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2023, especially in Ho Chi Minh City.

He highly appreciated Vietnam's economic growth and affirmed Japan's willingness to continue to finance important projects in Vietnam through ODA and low-interest loans./.
