Hanwha Ocean signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade in Hanoi on July 22 to strengthen the comprehensive cooperation between the two sides in training and creating jobs for Vietnamese shipbuilding workers.

An official from Hanwha Ocean said that the latest MoU aims to meet their needs for workers through capacity building programs of vocational training institutions under the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade. “We hope the cooperation will allow us to establish a stable plan to hire high skilled foreign workers,” he said.

Meanwhile, HD Hyundai Chairman Chung Ki-sun also visited Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding's shipyard in Khanh Hoa in June during his visit to Vietnam as a member of the business delegation accompanying the Korean President.

Since the establishment of Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Company in 1996, Vietnam has become the country receiving the 5th most shipbuilding orders in the world. Vietnam is also known for having the most skilled and experienced shipbuilders among Southeast Asian countries.

Currently, Korean shipbuilding companies are prioritizing recruiting Vietnamese workers. Statistics compiled by the Korean Ministry of Justice at the beginning of 2023 showed that Vietnamese nationals accounted for 55.1% of the 1,595 foreigners who received E-7 visas between January 2022 and January 2023 for specific activities related to the shipbuilding industry./.
