Vietnam, Chile promote economic and trade cooperation

At the reception, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang welcomed Deputy Minister Claudia Sanhueza to visit Vietnam and attend the 5th Meeting of the Vietnam-Chile Free Trade Council chaired by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The Vietnamese Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to relations with Chile, one of Vietnam's largest economic partners in the Latin American region. She expressed her belief that Deputy Minister Sanhueza's visit is an opportunity for the two sides to evaluate and discuss economic and trade cooperation, including the implementation of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).

Deputy Minister Claudia Sanhueza expressed her pleasure at her first visit to Vietnam; affirmed that Chile wished to strengthen relations with Asia, especially Southeast Asia, in which Vietnam is a key partner with high economic growth in ASEAN.

Discussing the results of the recent 5th Meeting of the Vietnam-Chile Free Trade Council, Deputy Minister Claudia Sanhueza said that the two sides discussed and reviewed many contents, including measures to strengthen bilateral and multilateral trade activities.

“Chile highly appreciates Vietnam's economic achievements and wishes to create conditions for businesses of the two countries to seek cooperation opportunities so that Chilean products can penetrate deeper into Vietnam, including agricultural products,” said the Chilean Deputy Minister, adding that she expressed her hope that the two countries would coordinate to effectively implement the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) Agreement and inter-regional cooperation frameworks and mechanisms.

Agreeing with Deputy Minister Claudia Sanhueza's opinions, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang affirmed that the two sides need to continue to strengthen and prepare well for bilateral activities, especially high-level delegations.

The Chilean Deputy Minister suggested that Chile continue to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese agricultural products to access the market, encourage businesses to expand cooperation into new fields such as hydrogen, solar power and wind power, and continue to closely coordinate at multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations, APEC and OECD./.
