During the talks, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien shared with UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix about the situation of cooperation in the field of overcoming the consequences of war in Vietnam, emphasizing the message of reconciliation and cooperation for overcoming the pain of the war to look towards to the future. He also updated Vietnam's UN peacekeeping operations, including the actual deployment of Vietnamese forces at the missions; issues relating to women, peace, security; training work; and Vietnam's preparation in all aspects to participate in UN peacekeeping.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix highly appreciated Vietnam's contributions as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and welcomed Vietnam's support for UN initiatives on peacekeeping, such as the Initiative for Action for Peacekeeping (A4P Initiative) and Action for Peacekeeping and A4P priorities for 2021-2023 (A4P+), as well as the fact that Vietnam has always maintained a proportion of female military personnel in the UN peacekeeping force at an encouraging level, higher than the 15% UN recommendation over the past 7 years.

Praising Vietnam's commitment to continue participating more deeply in UN peacekeeping activities, he said that the UN would create conditions for Vietnam to have the opportunity to choose a suitable mission to deploy the upcoming Army Corps of Engineers. He also suggested that Vietnam continue to support and participate in the fourth UN Defense Ministers Meeting on Peacekeeping, scheduled to be held in December 2021 in the Republic of Korea.

The two sides agreed to promote cooperation between Vietnam and the UN in various fields, including UN peacekeeping, settlement of war consequences, maritime law enforcement, sustainable development, and increase of capacity in response to climate change, natural disasters, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien expressed his hope that the UN would continue to be a bridge to strengthen relations between Vietnam and partners in the future./.
