Bat Trang is a 500-year old traditional trade village with many unique and ancient architectural works. To create pottery products, artisans must soak clay for 3-4 months to remove its impurities, then use the clay to make pottery products. The products are dried and burnt in a stove to avoid bending, warping or cracking, then decorated with patterns.
The artisan uses brush to draw directly on the product. Once finished, the product must be cleaned with a feather duster and then baked at low temperature, enameled and baked in an oven on the principle of its temperature must be gradually increased and when the pottery product is fully fired, the temperature is decreased gradually.
Bat Trang pottery products have many designs, models and types. They are divided into functional groups such as household pottery, fine art pottery, building pottery and decorative pottery. Bat Trang pottery is not only famous in Vietnam, but also exported to many countries around the world.
After listening to the introduction about how to make a pottery product, the overseas Vietnamese students were eager to experience making a pottery product by themselves.
“I feel wonderful when participating in the program. Each locality leaves me unforgettable impressions. I think they will be warm memories in the time I am a student. I thank the organizing board for creating conditions for us to return the homeland to learn about and experience activities about historical origin, national features, which are driving forces for us to strive study, solidarity and toward the homeland,” shared Nuong Van Mien, a 14-year-old student.
At the meeting with the leaders of the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese (SCOV) on the same day, the delegation thanked SCOV for organizing the significant program and hoped that there will be many programs for overseas Vietnamese children in Taiwan (China) to have opportunities to visit the homeland to help them learn about Vietnamese language. That is an advantage for them to have a good future in the new homeland as well as help them love Vietnamese language, national culture and pride of being Vietnamese people.
After visiting Bat Trang, they continue to visit Hoan Kiem lake and Hanoi Ancient Quarter to feel the specific culture of the capital Hanoi.
The program is carried out thanks to the Vietnam - Taiwan (China) education cooperation in order to promote teaching and learning Vietnamese language for children of Taiwan - Vietnam families. It will be applied in the whole education system of Taiwan since 2019 to universalize teaching and learning Vietnamese language among the Vietnamese community, thus helping them look toward the homeland./.
