At the working sessions, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung expressed his honor to become Ambassador to Thailand, an important and close neighbor of Vietnam, as well as an important economic, tourism and people-to-people exchange partner; wishing to contribute to promoting cooperation between the two countries and between localities of the two countries in particular.

Expressing his pleasure at the fact that Vietnam and Thailand have 19 pairs of localities signing sisterhood and cooperation relationships, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung hoped that localities of the two sides would actively implement delegation exchange activities; agreements and signed documents to promote exchange and cooperation activities in investment, trade and tourism more substantively and effectively.

Ambassador Pham Viet Hung affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand is always ready to support and accompany delegation exchanges, and cooperation connection activities between localities of Vietnam and Thailand.

In Trat province, Governor Nattaphong Sanguanchi expressed his love for the country and people of Vietnam; said that he had visited localities in Vietnam such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue and Dak Lak; affirmed that the two sides still have a lot of potential for cooperation and development; and wished to promote tourism cooperation with Vietnam's coastal provinces, including the use of sea routes.

Trat province has a twinned relationship with Long An and Ca Mau provinces of Vietnam. Trat province serves as a major centre in planting fruits, mining gems and fishing in the region. Regarding tourism, this province owns Koh Chang Island, Thailand's third largest island.

At the meeting with Ambassador Pham Viet Hung, Governor of Chanthaburi province, Mr. Monsit Phaisanthanawat, said that in 2007, Chanthaburi province coordinated with Trat province and Kien Giang province of Vietnam to conduct a survey of sea tourism from Chanthaburi province to Phu Quoc Island.

He hopes that in the coming time, he can coordinate with the Vietnamese Embassy and relevant localities and agencies to implement this plan in practice if it is feasible and effective.

Chanthaburi province was twinned with Vietnam’s Kien Giang province in 2005. Chanthaburi is located in Southeast Thailand, on the shore of the Gulf of Thailand and borders Battambang and Pailin provinces of Cambodia.

In Chonburi province, Governor Thawatchai Srithong said that the province has strengths in industry and tourism. According to statistics, about 100,000 Vietnamese tourists visit Chonburi each year.

The province will coordinate closely with the Vietnamese Embassy if there are cases related to tourists, and hopes that the two sides will coordinate to attract more tourists to each country.

The Governor of Chonburi province also hopes to connect with Vietnamese localities with industrial strengths, having capability of providing raw materials, coordinating training and developing skilled human resources.

Chonburi province has a twinned relationship with Vietnam's Dong Nai province. It is famous for a coastal resort city near Bangkok, with Bang Saen and Pattaya beaches popular with millions of Thai and foreign tourists./.
