Vietnamese Ambassador presents letter of credentials to Chairman of African Union Commission

Vietnamese Ambassador to Tanzania concurrently Ethiopia Nguyen Nam Tien on December 15 presented the Letter of Credentials from President Vo Van Thuong appointing him as Vietnam's Representative to the African Union (AU) to AU Commission Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat, marking the official establishment of Vietnam - AU diplomatic relations.

At the Credentials Presentation Ceremony, AU Commission Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat welcomed and wished Ambassador Tien a successful term as Vietnamese Representative at the AU; praising Vietnam's achievements in the process of building and developing the country; and affirming Vietnam's important role in ASEAN bloc.

The Chairman of the AU Commission believes that in the coming time, Vietnam will make even greater contributions to the 2063 agenda for peace and security of Africa, contributing to strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and Africa in all fields.

Ambassador Nguyen Nam Tien expressed his honor and awareness of the great responsibility of being appointed as Vietnamese Representative to the AU; and affirmed that he will strive to promote cooperation between Vietnam and the AU to new heights.

Sharing about Vietnam's achievements over the past time, the Ambassador said that Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 193 countries around the world; established trade relations with more than 230 economies; and is currently the 4th largest economy in ASEAN and 37th in the world.

Vietnam's agriculture, as a driving force of the economy, contributes to firmly ensuring national food security, creating jobs for millions of employees, and greatly contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction and ensuring welfare.

With Africa, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 54 out of 55 countries and will soon establish diplomatic relations with Malawi.

Ambassador Nguyen Nam Tien emphasized that Vietnam wants to strengthen cooperation with the AU in the fields of politics, diplomacy, economics, trade and investment, development cooperation, culture and participation in United Nations peacekeeping activities in Africa; and is ready to contribute more directly and proactively to the AU's common efforts for "an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by the African people themselves and representing a dynamic force in the world.

On this occasion, the Ambassador also conveyed President Vo Van Thuong's invitation for the Chairman of the AU Commission to soon visit Vietnam./.
