Vietnamese community in Hong Kong looks towards homeland

This was also the first event after two years of suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was attended by all officials and employees of the representative agencies of Vietnam in Hong Kong, a large number of overseas Vietnamese in Hong Kong and representatives of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Macau to celebrate the atmosphere of the new spring.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Consul General in Hong Kong Pham Binh Dam said that this was an opportunity for overseas Vietnamese to meet and share the joy in the homeland spring atmosphere.

He said that over the past time, the Consulate General of Vietnam has devoted time to the community work, the issue of entry visas for students has been officially opened and more and more Vietnamese students have been in Hong Kong, and work visas will also be eased soon. Currently, Vietnamese experts can be granted work visas in Hong Kong with the direct support of the Consulate General.

On the occasion of the meeting, the Liaison Committee of the Vietnamese Community in Hong Kong and the Vietnamese Student Association in Hong Kong were officially launched. In the coming time, the Vietnamese business community in Hong Kong will also be established.

At the event, Vietnamese Consul General Pham Binh Dam and overseas Vietnamese enjoyed traditional dishes and art programs performed by overseas Vietnamese.

After 2 years of suspending travel between Hong Kong and Macau due to the pandemic prevention policy, this year, the representative of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Macau attended a meeting on the occasion of the New Year.

Mr. Duong Trung Duc, President of the Overseas Vietnamese Association of Vietnamese in Macau, shared that over the past years, overseas Vietnamese in Hong Kong and Macau have had no direct contact. He hoped that in the coming time, the two sides would have regular exchanges, hoping that the Vietnamese community in Hong Kong and Macau would grow stronger and unite together more closely.

On this occasion, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong awarded certificates of merit to representatives of overseas Vietnamese as well as overseas Vietnamese living and working in Hong Kong making many positive contributions to the homeland.

Currently, there are about 7,000 Vietnamese people living, working and studying in Hong Kong./.
