Vietnamese Consulate General in Japan supports earthquake-affected Vietnamese in Japan

A delegation from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Osaka, Japan and representatives of Vietnamese associations and businesses in Kansai area and surrounding areas on January 6 visited and encouraged Vietnamese interns and Japanese people who were affected by the earthquake in Ishikawa province, according to a Vietnam News Agency reporter from Ishikawa.

The delegation gave 600 gifts to interns and some Japanese people fleeing the earthquake, encouraging everyone to try to overcome this difficult period.

The delegation also had a meeting with Mr. Chatani Yoshitaka, Mayor of Nanao city. At the meeting, Consul General Ngo Trinh Ha expressed his sympathy for the losses that the earthquake caused to the people of the city, announcing that the relief goods have been delivered to the Vietnamese community and Japanese people in Ishikawa prefecture.

The Consul General wants to learn more about the situation and specific needs of the Vietnamese community and local people to plan further support.

Mayor Chatani Yoshitaka expressed his thanks for the delegation's support, affirming that he will make efforts to overcome the earthquake consequences and help people soon return to their normal lives.

He said that Nanao city has had many cultural exchange activities with other countries, and hopes to have more exchange activities with the local Vietnamese community in the locality and with Vietnam.

During this business trip, the delegation met with a number of agencies and associations in Ishikawa prefecture and initially established a coordination channel to receive aid for people affected by the earthquake to continue implementation of the support plan in the near future.

Ishikawa prefecture just suffered a major earthquake that caused a tsunami on January 1. According to statistics, there were about 5,000 Vietnamese people living, studying, and working in Ishikawa prefecture, of which about 600 people were affected by the earthquake.

Immediately after the earthquake occurred, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Osaka instructed Vietnamese associations and businesses in the area to establish a campaign committee to donate and support victims and quickly implement relief plans, demonstrating the solidarity and mutual support of the Vietnamese community in Japan./.
